Ospreys survive early onslaught to claim stunning bonus-point win over Scarlets
The Ospreys claimed the west Wales bragging rights as they claimed a 26-19 bonus-point victory over the Scarlets in Llanelli.
Mark Jones' side survived a first-half onslaught by the Scarlets to come out on top in what could be the final west Wales derby between these two sides played in Llanelli in front of a bumper crowd of 12,105.
Dwayne Peel will be left to rue a number of missed opportunities by his side who were outdone by a resolute Ospreys defence with Harri Deaves and Owen Watkin outstanding for the visitors.
Tries from Owen Watkin, Dewi Lake, Kieran Hardy and Iestyn Hopkins along with six points from the boot of Dan Edwards helped the Ospreys climb off the bottom of the United Rugby Championship table.
All the Scarlets could muster were a brace of tries from Joe Roberts and a score from Jarrod Taylor, along with four points from the boot of Joe Hawkins.
Peel's side thought they had opened the scoring after just five minutes when Jake Ball powered over from short-range but the try was disallowed after the TMO spotted a double movement in the act of scoring.
The Scarlets continued to apply pressure and after working an overlap a neat chip from Ellis Mee found Gareth Davies who kicked forward but it had far too much on it and went over the dead ball line.
Despite being on top the Scarlets were extremely wasteful, with Deaves doing a good job of slowing down the speed of the home side's ruck ball.
But the Ospreys put themselves under pressure when Keiran Williams got sent to the sin bin for an intentional knock on after the Scarlets had created another overlap.
The Ospreys were emboldened after keeping the Scarlets at bay and after winning a penalty Edwards drilled the ball into the corner to give the visitors a lineout
