Ospreys snatch stunning late win against Pau on memorable day

The Ospreys secured a home tie in last 16 of the Challenge Cup as they earned a dramatic 31-28 victory over Pau in France.

At one stage the Welsh club looked dead and buried after Pau had raced into a 28-19 lead with just 10 minutes remaining but tries from Dan Edwards and Luke Davies resulted in Mark Jones' side snatching victory from the jaws of defeat.

Warren Gatland would have been impressed by the performance of Wales captain Jac Morgan who was outstanding throughout, while Wales U20s No 8 Morgan Morse was totemic.

On top of Edwards and Davies' tries, Evardi Boshoff, Ryan Conbeer and Morgan also scored. Pau claimed two losing bonus points with Theo Attissogbe, Fabien Brau-Boirie and Eliott Roudil touching down for the French club who also claimed a penalty try.

Pau started like a house on fire as they dominated the collisions and made significant post-contact metres from their carries. After initially getting held up over the line, Gregoire Arfeuil sliced open the Ospreys defence to score a try which Desperes converted.

But the Ospreys hit back soon after and second-row Will Spencer was the architect. The giant lock hit a great angle to charge through a gap before getting brought down just outside the Pau 22 before the ball was put through the hands for Conbeer to score at the corner, with Edwards adding the extras.

But Pau took the lead on the stroke of half-time when Fabien Brau-Boirie powered over from short-range with Desperes converting, meaning the Ospreys turned around 14-7 behind.
