Ospreys beat Glasgow as Keelan Giles scores twice in bonus-point win

The Ospreys exorcised the ghosts of the previous weekend as they accounted for Glasgow Warriors 32-17 in Saturday’s United Rugby Championship clash in Swansea.

A week earlier against the Lions in Swansea, the Ospreys seemed on a mission to find out how many ways there were to bring about a defeat. The setback was self-inflicted as the spoils were handed over to the South African visitors.

The Lions must have travelled home asking themselves: “Did that really just happen?”

It was a wasteful effort on an industrial scale from the Welsh region and frustration was etched on the face of head coach Toby Booth afterwards.

But another day, another match.

Booth’s side got the job done this time with a much improved display that secured them a try bonus point to go with their win.

Headlines will deservedly go to Keelan Giles for his two tries, but the effort was built on a rock solid effort from the Ospreys pack with Rhys Webb marshalling matters impressively behind.

Giles’ tries were picture book affairs — the first seeing him brilliantly finish at the flag, the second involving a chase and collect that took speed and skill.

George North and Reuben Morgan-Williams also touched down as the host picked up a maximum haul of points.

There was a concern for both the Ospreys and Wales when Gareth Anscombe left the field in the second half in obvious pain and nursing his rib area.

Otherwise it was a triumphant day for Toby Booth’s team.

It was 10-3 to the Ospreys at the break after a patchy first half with moments of quality blending with needless errors.

There was no score in the first quarter as the two sides struggled for control, with the Ospreys wasting a good opportunity by conceding a scrum penalty close to the opposition line.
