Oscars LIVE: No red carpet as stars begin to arrive for the 95th Academy Award
Stars have begun to arrive for the 95th Academy Awards – but there was no red carpet for the biggest night in the showbusiness calendar.
In a departure from previous ceremonies, the welcome carpet rolled out for the awards ceremony is champagne coloured instead of red. At the carpet’s official rollout this year’s show host Jimmy Kimmel joked that the decision “shows how confident we are that no blood will be shed” – in reference to Will Smith’s now-infamous slap.
Best actor contender Brendan Fraser and best supporting actress nominee Jamie Lee Curtis were among the first to arrive on the event’s carpet which, in a departure from previous years, is the colour of champagne. Coda star Troy Kotsur, Questlove, Elizabeth Olsen and Vanessa Hudgens were also pictured at the event – due to begin at midnight UK time on Sunday.
The Banshees Of Inisherin and other Irish talent could win big at the Oscars, but face stiff competition from awards season juggernaut Everything Everywhere All At Once. The sci-fi epic, directed by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, swept top prizes at the Film Independent Spirit Awards and the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) awards, marking it out as a clear frontrunner at the Oscars.
