Oscar Cortes gets Rangers patience plea as John Souttar reveals year long Ridvan Yilmaz struggle

John Souttar has urged Rangers fans to be patient with Oscar Cortes, pointing to Ridvan Yilmaz as a prime example of how settling can be a struggle.

The 20-year-old Colombian winger has shown flashes of his ability in Light Blue since arriving on loan from Lens until the end of the season. The Ibrox club have an option to make the move permanent in the summer, with a four-and-a-half year contract the reported reward on offer for Cortes if he impresses sufficiently.

Souttar has been impressed by the new arrival, but has warned fans not to expect fireworks right away. Left back Yilmaz has had just over 18 months ion Govan since a £5million switch from Besiktas. But he's only really starting to get regular gametime now as Clement rotates between him and Borna Barisic. And Souttar revealed it took Yilmaz a year to build his confidence enough to be comfortable in the Rangers environment, and has asked that they give Cortes time to find his feet.

"He (Cortes) has done well, we have to let him play football and get used to life in a new country. It is difficult when you don't speak the language or understand the culture, it probably took Ridvan around a year to fully be confident. For Oscar, his ability looks great but it is important we are patient with him."
