Orta can unearth a new £100m-rated talent as Leeds plot offer for 18 y/o "wonderkid" - opinion

Leeds United are interested in a deal to bring Khayon Edwards to Elland Road this summer.

That’s according to a report by Goal, who claim that all four of Leeds, Chelsea, Brighton and Hove Albion and Southampton are keeping a very close eye on the situation of the Arsenal centre-forward ahead of a potential move at the end of the season.

The report goes on to state that Chelsea have gone as far as to make an approach for the 18-year-old, while Arsenal themselves are attempting to convince the youngster to put pen to paper on professional terms at The Emirates – with his current deal set to expire this summer.

Considering just how impressive Edwards has been for Dan Micciche’s Arsenal U18 side this season, it is easy to see why Victor Orta would be keen to secure a deal to bring the teenager to Thorp Arch.

Indeed, over his 16 U18 Premier League appearances this term, the 18-year-old has scored a quite incredible 16 goals, in addition to setting up a further five for his teammates, while he has also bagged one goal in two outings for the Gunners’ U23 side.

And, considering this level of form, it is no wonder the striker has been described as “the next Bukayo Saka” someone valued at a staggering £100m, or a “wonderkid” by a prominent Arsenal news Twitter account. However, it is perhaps Leeds United’s Sam Greenwood who Edwards is most comparable to.

Indeed, prior to his £3m move from north London to Elland Road back in August 2020, Greenwood had been in similarly prolific form for Arsenal’s U18s, bagging 15 goals and registering six assists over his 39 fixtures for the youth side.
