‘Orchestrator of everything we do well’ – Plenty of Sheffield United fans react to 30-year-old’s display after Peterborough United win
Sheffield United sealed a much-needed victory over relegation battlers Peterborough United yesterday evening, asserting themselves as genuine play-off contenders once again as they claimed a 2-0 victory away from home.
It took until the second half for the Blades to get their opener, but they finally made the breakthrough when Billy Sharp capitalised in the box to guide the ball home, giving Steven Benda in the Peterborough goal no chance.
The 35-year-old also missed a glorious one-on-one opportunity to put the game to bed – but they did finally make the points secure when Callum Morton deflected the ball into his own net – with United’s defence also remaining strong as they kept a clean sheet.
This latest result takes them within six points of the play-offs, something they will take great heart from considering they still have two games in hand over sixth-placed Middlesbrough and three over West Brom in fifth, with both teams firmly in Paul Heckingbottom’s side’s sights.
Yesterday belonged to Billy Sharp though, grabbing a record-breaking goal as he became the all-time leading goalscorer in the Championship with his opener at the Weston Homes Stadium.
But another Blade in Oliver Norwood also received praise despite often being a figure that splits the United fanbase. What did they have to say about him after yesterday’s game though?
We take a look at some of their fans’ responses on Twitter below.
Can we just enjoy Norwood. Let’s not get irrational, one min he’s god, next the scapegoat. He’s a top player, has been one of the best midfield players I have seen, certainly range and accuracy of pass. Next time he has a poor game, Read todays tweets! #sufc
