Opinion: Unsung Celtic star should be given more credit

There seems to be a group of players at Celtic Park that manager Ange Postecoglou really trusts, and selects for almost every game when the players are fit and available.

That includes the likes of Kyogo, Callum McGregor, Joe Hart, Cameron Carter-Vickers, Carl Starfelt, and it also includes left-back Greg Taylor.

The former Kilmarnock man has been one of the unsung heroes of a Hoops side that are going to win a Premiership and Premier Sports Cup double this season. He doesn’t really get the credit he deserves for almost always delivering solid performances, and he has for the most part played well for the Hoops this season, particularly in the second-half of the season.

Taylor has played 33 games this season, and it would have been more games had it not been for a shoulder injury in the first-half of the season. Taylor contributed to the Hoops’ recent 4-1 win over Hearts, with a fine cross to Matt O’Riley who scored the vital third goal for Celtic in the game.

Taylor will have to keep up his current level of form next season, as you have to imagine that the Hoops will look to bring in another left-back to challenge Taylor for the role in the side.

Is Taylor good enough to play for the Hoops in the Champions League? We shall find out next season, as the Hoops will be directly in the group stages as soon as the team are confirmed as Premiership champions.

That will be a test for the player, but then it will also be a test for most of the rest of the Hoops squad, who have not played in European club football’s biggest competition.

That is for the future though, at the moment Taylor and the rest of his Celtic teammates will be concentrating on getting the one point required against Dundee United at Tannadice on Wednesday
