Opinion: Three-word update on Celtic transfers is no shock

Prominent Scottish football website Football Scotland had an interesting update on how things stand when it comes to Celtic and transfers on their website on Monday the 25th of July.

Perhaps the most interesting part of the update are the three-words at the end of the paragraph about potential Hoops signings.

“It remains as you were at Parkhead, we understand, with the club content with their summer business so far. There is believed to be one or two irons in the fire after Ange Postecoglou revealed he does fancy another signing or more, but nothing is close.”

Nothing is close‘ – that seems to indicate that Celtic won’t be signing any players soon. That won’t come as a shock to the Hoops support, as the Bhoys have got a lot of transfer business done in the transfer window, and as it stands, it looks as if Postecoglou is pleased with the way his squad looks.

Of course that could change, and if a player becomes available, the Hoops could make perhaps one more signing before the transfer window closes at the end of the month.

If you were to ask the Celtic support about an area of the squad that they would like to see improved before the transfer window closes, it is most likely in the midfield area, where a replacement for Nir Bitton hasn’t been signed, and there is no defensive midfielder to take his place in the squad. That could be an issue, especially when it comes to the Champions League.

However, you have to think that if the Celtic boss wanted to sign a defensive midfielder he would have done so by now, and it seems as if the Hoops manager isn’t going to sign one for season 2022/23 unless something changes over the next few weeks.
