Opinion: Returning Celtic star could shine once again at Fir Park

After the excitement of defeating Rangers 3-0 and going top of the league, Celtic are next in action on Sunday, with a trip to Fir Park to face Motherwell.

It is a big game for the Hoops, as the side won’t want to relinquish top spot in the table after working so hard to get there. You have to think that Ange Postecoglou will consider the game as important as the derby, and will demand that his team work hard to get the three points.

What will be interesting is the Celtic team that is selected. The Hoops have Daizen Maeda back from international duty, and he came on during the second-half of the win over Rangers. The other Celtic player that was away on international duty, Tom Rogic, wasn’t back in time for the derby but should be back in time for the trip to Fir Park.

Rogic has a good record against Motherwell. He has scored five goals against them, making them the team he has scored the most goals against, alongside Aberdeen and Rangers.

This season he has been very influential against the Fir Park side. He set up Jota’s goal in the 2-0 win at Fir Park, and scored the only goal of the game in Celtic’s 1-0 win at Celtic Park.

With that sort of form against Motherwell, the Celtic boss must be tempted to involve the player at some stage of the game at Fir Park. If Rogic is involved, it is unlikely that he will be starting the match. That would be too much too ask of the player after playing twice on the other side of the world for Australia this week.

It would not be a surprise though to see the player come on as a substitute at some stage of the game. That is what happened with Daizen Maeda when he returned from international duty, so the same could happen with Rogic, as long as he feels fit and ready to go.

If Celtic
