Opinion: No surprise that Celtic have transfer interest in 25-year-old
Celtic are reportedly interested in signing AIK left-back Erick Otieno. Football Direkt in Sweden reports that the Hoops are interested in signing the 25-year-old.
The player is currently in action for AIK, as their league is ongoing, and he has made 15 appearances so far this season, contributing one goals and one assist.
It is no surprise that Celtic seem to be interested in signing the Kenyan international, as left-back seems to be a position that Ange Postecoglou is looking to add to his squad.
The Hoops have already been linked with a few left-backs already, with The Scottish Sun claiming almost a month ago that Hammarby’s Mohanad Jeahze was set to sign for the Bhoys, but that move hasn’t happened as yet.
Judging by Celtic’s reported interest in both Jeahze and Otieno, it seems that the Swedish league is going to be a place where the Hoops look for players, so that is something to look out for in the next few months until the transfer window closes.
Another takeaway from Celtic’s interest in Swedish players is that the Celtic boss doesn’t seem concerned about signing players that have already played a number of games in their country before signing for the Hoops.
That was the case when the Hoops signed three Japanese-based players in the January transfer window, all of whom had played a lot of football before joining the Bhoys. That would also be the case should either Otieno or Jeahze join Celtic, and that seems to be something that the Hoops boss is comfortable with.
Celtic have a few left-backs in the squad such as Adam Montgomery and Liam Scales, but the number one choice is obviously Greg Taylor, and Postecoglou must feel that Taylor needs some competition for his place in the squad, which is correct, as with
