Opinion: Losing two promising players would be a bad look for Celtic

It seems that one promising player is set to leave Celtic, with The Athletic reporting that 16-year-old Ben Doak is set to move to Liverpool at the end of the season.

That is a disappointment for the Hoops, as the attacker had been involved in first-team action this season, and he must have been highly thought of by the Hoops for such a young player to get first-team opportunities.

With one young player seemingly set to depart, the last thing that Celtic will want is another promising player with first-team experience leaving the club at the end of the season, but that is what could happen with Karamoko Dembele, 

The 18-year-old winger featured for the Hoops in the Scottish Cup win last night, his second appearance of the season so far. However, his contract expires at the end of the season, and as yet he has not signed a new deal with the Bhoys.

Hopefully he can agree a new deal with the club, as it would not be a good look for the club to lose two promising players in such a short period, as it would show that perhaps young players don’t see playing for Celtic as the pathway to first-team football, which would be slightly unfair.

If you look at Celtic’s squad, there are players that have come through the ranks to make it to the first-team. James Forrest, Callum McGregor, Dane Murray and Mikey Johnston have all been involved in first-team football, with Forrest and McGregor being mainstays of the Celtic side for years.

That should give Dembele confidence that he can follow in the footsteps of Forrest and McGregor and become a first-team regular.
