Opinion: How many of Celtic's 13 loanees have a future at the club?

Looking at the Celtic first-team squad on the Hoops’ official website, it is noticeable that the Bhoys have a lot of players out on loan. In total, there are 13 players out on loan.

It is always understandable when clubs send players out on loan, if they are young players that are in need of game time, or players on the fringes of the first-team, then it makes sense for Celtic to make the decision to let players that aren’t getting regular football the chance to play every week.

Of the 13 players, there are a few who don’t seem to have any future at Celtic. One of them, Liam Henderson, is on loan at Hibernian, and has agreed to join the Easter Road side at the end of the season.

Boli Bolingoli is currently on loan at Russian side FC Uta, and he likely doesn’t have much of a future at the club.

Of the players on loan who could have a future at Celtic, midfielder Liam Shaw and full-back Adam Montgomery are a duo to keep an eye on.

Shaw is at Motherwell until the end of the season, and Montgomery is at Aberdeen. Sadly for Montgomery, the left-back is currently injured, and it will be interesting to see how often he features for Jim Goodwin’s side when he returns from that setback – Goodwin wasn’t the manager when Montgomery moved to Aberdeen, it was Stephen Glass.

As for Shaw, he has been in and out of the Motherwell side since joining the Fir Park team in January. The experience of playing first-team football will surely hold the duo in good stead though, as it is better than sitting in the stands, not being in the Celtic squad at all.
