Opinion: Champions League money could help Celtic sign 6ft mainstay

It seems that Celtic loan star Cameron Carter-Vickers is a player in demand. The Tottenham centre-back, who is set to leave Celtic when his deal expires at the end of the season, is interesting Leicester City, Wolves, Watford and Bournemouth, SBI Soccer reports.

It is no surprise that the American centre-back is attracting attention, as the 24-year-old has been a mainstay for the Hoops side which is currently at the top of the Scottish Premiership, making 36 appearances in all competitions.

There is no doubt that Ange Postecoglou and Celtic would love to keep the 6ft defender at the club beyond his loan deal, and one way that could happen is if the Hoops can automatically qualify for the Champions League group stages.

The Bhoys will likely reach the group stages if Celtic go on to win the Premiership title this season, due to the Scottish champions getting automatic qualification for the group stages.

Getting to the group stages of the Champions League for the first time since 2016 would be a real financial boost for the Bhoys, and it would perhaps allow the team to get some transfer deals done that they might not normally do.

Maybe those deals could be turning the loan deals for Carter-Vickers and Jota into permanent deals. That would be a great start to next season’s transfer window for the Bhoys.

There is no guarantee that the player will want to stay at Celtic though, and he could be interested in joining one of the teams that are reportedly interested in signing him.

But none of the interested sides can offer Champions League football, which is what the Hoops can if the Bhoys go on to win the league.
