Opinion: Celtic striker battle could define season 2022/23 for Hoops
How Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou handles his forward line could define how the Hoops perform in season 2022/23.
In a way the Bhoys are fortunate to have two proven goal scorers on the club’s books. Both Kyogo and Giorgos Giakoumakis were key men for the Bhoys in the Premiership title win, and you have to think that they will be very important for the Hoops in Europe.
However, as it stands there doesn’t seem to be a way for both players to start in the same side for the Bhoys. It makes more sense in the 4-3-3 system that Ange Postecoglou plays to have only one main striker, and that is either Kyogo or Giakoumakis.
The battle between the two strikers to see who will be the first choice for the Hoops could well define Celtic’s season, as both players will surely be pushing themselves to keep in the starting line-up, and that can only be a good thing for Celtic.
There is perhaps a slight possibility that the Hoops could play both players in the same starting line-up, but that wouldn’t get the best out of either man. We have already seen that Kyogo is at his best playing through the middle, some of the best aspects of his game were removed when he played on the wing on a few occasions last season.
As for Giakoumakis, playing in any other role rather than the main striker one would seem to be a waste of his talents as a player, as he has shown just how a performer he can be as the main striker for the Hoops.
The Celtic boss might well decide to rotate his two main strikers, and it will be interesting to see if the Hoops decide to bring a third forward in during the transfer window. That could give the Bhoys yet another option for the hectic schedule of both domestic and European football.
Still, the thought of Kyogo and
