Opinion: Celtic star's confidence will be through the roof after key goal

Celtic striker Giorgos Giakoumakis ended his fine 2021/22 season by scoring a vital goal for Greece in their Nations League fixture against Kosovo.

The forward headed home in style to put Greece one-nil up, and they won 2-0 to win their Nations League group and secure promotion to League B, the second highest tier of the competition.

It was a really good goal by the striker, a header which was reminiscent of the goals that he scored for the Hoops on a few occasions in season 2021/22.

The player has ended his season in style, and he will be full of confidence going into next season. Not only did he score the goal which secured the league title for the Hoops against Dundee United, but he scored a key goal which saw Greece win their Nations League group.

Scoring big goals in big games is a great aspect of a striker’s game, and you wouldn’t be surprised if Giakoumakis did the same next season.

Not only does he score big goals, but he has finished top scorer in two different leagues in the last two seasons, firstly the Dutch league, and then the Scottish league.

Sometimes it can take players that come from abroad time to settle into the Scottish game, and that is arguably what happened to the striker in the first-half of season 2021/22. But once the goals started to arrive they came on a regular basis, and Giakoumakis could be considered as Celtic’s number one striker, when you consider how vital he was in the two wins over Rangers he started in.

Giakoumakis will now have a break as his 2021/22 season has come to an end, and he has earned that break after some excellent performances for both club and country.
