Opinion: Celtic star could have replaced teammate in team of the season

The Scottish PFA announced the team of the season yesterday, and six Celtic players were chosen to be in the XI – Cameron Carter-Vickers, Josip Juranovic, Callum McGregor, Tom Rogic, Jota and Kyogo.

It can’t be denied that the six players deserve the recognition that they have received, as they have performed excellently for the Hoops, and are a big reason why Celtic are on the verge on clinching the Premiership title.

However, there is one Celtic player that has been left out of the side, and it looks to be a glaring omission – Liel Abada.

Abada has been an excellent performer for the Hoops this season. In his first campaign with the Bhoys, he has scored 15 goals and contributed 11 assists whilst playing 51 games, which shows just key a player he has been to the Hoops in all competitions this season.

The fact that Abada is only 20-years-old and and is such an important player for the Hoops is testament to how important the player has been to Ange Postecoglou.

Abada’s goals for the Hoops have been key this season to Celtic’s hopes of winning the league title. There was the last-minute winner against Dundee United, and the third goal against Rangers which helped the Hoops go top of the league, a position from which the Bhoys haven’t looked back.

Comparing Abada to Jota, who did make the best team of the season, is quite intriguing. Jota has 11 goals and 12 assists in all competitions, so Jota leads the battle in assists, whilst Abada leads the race in goals scored this season for the Hoops.

Is there a case for Abada replacing Jota in the team of the season? Possibly, although it can be argued that both players deserve to be in the best team of the season, as they have both been excellent for the Hoops in season 2021/22.
