Opinion: Celtic shouldn't buy player who has 'reservations' about Scotland
Sky Sports News News Editor Anthony Joseph, who often has transfer news about Celtic, provided about an update about the Hoops’ interest in Lommel talent Vinicius Souza.
The reporter stated that the Hoops are amongst many clubs interested in the player, along with the likes of Club Brugge and Bologna, but that the player has some ‘reservations’ about moving to Scotland, and it is set to take his time before deciding where he wants to play in season 2022/23.
The fact that the player has some ‘reservations’ about moving to Scotland should end Celtic’s interest in the midfielder. If a player doesn’t want to play in the Scottish Premiership then it is better to turn attention to those players who do want to come to Scotland.
The Scottish league is seen as well below the standard of the top leagues in Europe, and even though Celtic will be playing in the Champions League group stages next season, it isn’t exactly a surprise that some prospective signings are unsure about moving to Scotland.
However, Ange Postecolou has managed to persuade a lot of players to come and play for the Hoops over the last 12 months, although it does have to be said that he was already familiar with a number of those players due to his time in Japan.
Could the Celtic boss work his magic and persuade Souza to move to Scotland? Perhaps. But the player might well be tempted by a move to Italy instead, as Serie A is undeniably a higher profile and more glamorous league than the Scottish Premiership.
Celtic will have other signing targets in mind if they don’t end up buying Souza, and it is probably time to move onto them if the player isn’t convinced about moving to Scotland, even with the chance to play in the Champions League group stages.
