Opinion: Celtic should be scouting eight-goal Premier League loanee

Celtic don’t buy players from the Scottish Premiership that often these days, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t players that feature in the Scottish top flight that could do a job for the Hoops.

One such player is a man who is currently on loan at St Mirren from Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers – 24-year-old central midfielder Connor Roan.

The player has enjoyed an exceptional first season at St Mirren, scoring eight goals in 26 games, which is an excellent record for a midfielder. He also has the happy knack of scoring excellent goals from long-range, which he has done this season against Rangers and Hearts.

The interesting thing about Roan’s goal tally is that only one Celtic central midfielder has scored more goals than him this season – David Turnbull with nine goals.

No other Hoops midfielder comes close to Roan’s goal tally. It is always a good thing to have midfielders that can score goals, and Roan should be looking to hit double figures this season to help St Mirren reach the top six of the Premiership.
