Opinion: Celtic must forget about recent triumph and look to the future

There is no denying that Celtic‘s recent win over Rangers at Ibrox was the team’s biggest of the season. The victory saw the Hoops go six points clear at the top of the Premiership with six games to go, and move close to winning the title in Ange Postecoglou’s first season as manager.

That game, as enjoyable as it was for everyone connected with Celtic, has to be forgotten about by all at the club, and it is time for the Hoops to move on and look ahead to the next challenge.

That next challenge is against St Johnstone at Celtic Park this Saturday, a game which is important at both ends of the table. Celtic will want to move nine points clear at the top of the table before Rangers are next in action, whilst St Johnstone will want the points as they aim to get out of the relegation/promotion play-off place in the league.

The Hoops can’t think that the league is won after the win at Ibrox, and you have to imagine that Ange Postecoglou will have been telling his players that all week in training, there is still work to be done by the Hoops before the title is clinched.

It is all about taking things one game at a time, that is the attitude that must be adopted by Celtic until the end of the season. 

For example, the next game that Celtic will play after the St Johnstone game is the Scottish Cup semi-final against Rangers. That is undeniably a big game for the Hoops.

But the Bhoys can’t even begin to think about that game until the St Johnstone game is over and done with. What is most important to everyone at Celtic is that the Hoops get the three points against St Johnstone to move at least six points ahead in the title race with only five games to play.
