Opinion: Celtic legend is correct to be cautious at crucial time of season

Celtic legend Chris Sutton recently urged caution to that the Hoops have not won the league yet. The Bhoys are in a great position when it comes to winning the league title, being six points ahead with five games remaining to play.

“They cannot think anything is done. Titles are hard to win. I know that from my time at Blackburn when we almost threw it away in the closing weeks before stumbling over the line” he said, in his recent Daily Record column.

“The message must keep being relayed. It is not over until the trophy and the medal is in your hands” he stated.

That attitude is something that has to be shared by all at Celtic Park, and you have to think that no one in the Celtic dressing room thinks that the title has been won yet.

There are still too many games left to play for Celtic to think that they will be champions, and one of those games will be against Rangers. Even though the Hoops will be favourites for the game, that is no guarantee that the Bhoys will win the game.

This week it is the Scottish Cup that will be dominating the minds of all at Celtic, as the Hoops aim to reach the final of the competition for the fifth time in six years, with a semi-final against Rangers.

Once that game has been played, then all the attention will turn to getting the points that could secure the Premiership title.

For the next six weeks, Celtic have to be taking things one game at a time. That has to be the attitude that is adopted by the players and the staff at the club. There is nothing wrong with fans getting excited about the possibility of winning the league and possibly the treble, but the players won’t be thinking about that at the moment.
