Opinion: Celtic have five contract decisions to make very soon

At the moment, there is understandably a lot of talk about Celtic getting loan signings Jota and Cameron Carter-Vickers tied down to permanent contracts, before their deals expire at the end of the season.

The duo have been two of the Hoops’ best players this season, and the sooner an agreement is reached for both players to sign permanent deals the better.

However, that isn’t the only contract issue the Bhoys have on the horizon. There five players at the club whose contracts expire at the end of season 2022/23. That is not long away, around 15 months.

The five players are: James Forrest, Nir Bitton, Boli Bolingoli, Christopher Jullien and Tom Rogic.

Of that five, it seems certain that the Hoops will attempt to agree a new deal with Tom Rogic. He has been one of the club’s most important players under Ange Postecoglou, and he is a key part of the Celtic side. The same is likely true of Nir Bitton.

Bitton might not play every game for the Hoops. but he is a useful player to have in the Celtic squad as he can play in both the middle of the park and in central defence.

You would imagine that James Forrest will get offered a new deal, but that could depend on how often he features for the Hoops over the next few months. If he can stay fit, then it would be sensible to give the winger a new contract, as he is one of the most decorated players in club history.

Perhaps the most interesting contract situation is that of Christopher Jullien. The centre-back has yet to play for the Hoops since December 2020, after suffering a knee injury. He is back in training and has been on the bench a few times but he has not featured on the pitch for over a year.
