Opinion: Celtic colossus is worth breaking the bank for

If you are selecting Celtic’s best players of season 2021/22, then Cameron Carter-Vickers has to be well up there. The on-loan centre-back has been a colossus in defence for the Bhoys, and his partnership with Carl Starfelt is a big reason why the Hoops are on the verge of winning the Premiership title.

Soon enough we will find out if the player will be joining Celtic on a permanent deal, as his loan deal from Spurs is up at the end of the season. 

Football.London reports that the Hoops are set to make an attempt to sign the player, in a deal which will be worth around £6m initially and could end up costing £10m if all add-ons are met.

That is a lot of money for a team like Celtic, but the American international has been so good for the Hoops this season that he is worth going that extra mile for.

Even when the team doesn’t play well overall, Carter-Vickers performs well. A recent example of that is the Scottish Cup semi-final against Rangers. The Hoops were poor in the game overall, but Carter-Vickers stood up to be counted, and was very unlucky to end up on the losing side.

It should be remembered that Carter-Vickers signed at the very end of the August transfer window, and Celtic started the season without the player at the club.

If the Hoops hadn’t signed the player, the season could have been very different, which shows just how important a signed he has been for the Bhoys.

Carter-Vickers and Celtic are close to winning the league and possibly making the Champions League, and if the Hoops do reach the group stages, then the money earned would surely mean that the club can afford to spend big, and one of the first signings in the summer should be Carter-Vickers on a permanent deal.
