Opinion: 67-goal tally demonstrates Celtic boss' transfer window genius

Celtic uploaded a number of facts and figures behind the club’s Premiership title win on Monday afternoon, and one statistic seemed to stick out more than the others mentioned.

It is that 67 of the 92 league goals that were scored by the Hoops were contributed by 10 players signed by Ange Postecoglou.

That is a tremendous amount of goals that have been scored by new signings, and it shows just how well that the Celtic boss recruited in both the summer and winter transfer windows.

Celtic probably wouldn’t have won the league if it wasn’t for the signings made by Postecoglou, he transformed a side which looked drained of confidence last season.

What is also interesting is that the player who contributed the most goals is one that struggled in the first-half of the season, Giorgos Giakoumakis, who scored 13 goals for the Hoops in the Premiership.

In the first-half of the season he had scored just once for the Bhoys, but in 2022 he became a focal point of the team, and he looks to be a player that could score a lot of goals for Celtic.

The fact that Postecoglou has had so many successful signings in his first season as Celtic manager bodes well for next season. The success rate of signings might not be the same, in fact it would be a surprise if it was, but Celtic fans should be confident that any players brought in by the Hoops boss will be able to do a job for the club.

Celtic’s goal tally this season has been really impressive, and the way that the new signings have contributed has been a real boost to the club. Not every signing has worked out, but the majority have, and that is very rare for a club to have such a success rate in two transfer windows, never mind one.
