Opinion: 31-game run shows that Celtic shouldn't fear pivotal fixture
There is no doubt that Celtic‘s trip to Ibrox to face Rangers on Sunday is the team’s biggest Premiership game of the season.
The Hoops would go six points clear at the top of the table with six games to play with a first win at Ibrox since September 2019.
That would put Ange Postecoglou’s side in a great position to regain the title. They often say that form goes out of the window for derby games, but Celtic should be confident about going to Ibrox and coming away with three points.
There are a few reasons why the team should be confident. The Hoops have scored the most goals, and conceded the least goals in the Premiership so far this season.
There is also the fact that the Bhoys are on a 31-game unbeaten domestic run. During that run of games, the Hoops have won at some difficult venues, such as the Tony Macaroni Stadium, Tannadice and Tynecastle. The Bhoys also defeated Rangers to go top of the league, and the Hoops haven’t looked back since.
There is no doubt that the trip to Ibrox will be difficult for Ange Postecoglou’s side, as Rangers are a good team, and are in the last eight of the Europa League, and are regularly outperforming Celtic in Europe. They also haven’t lost at home in the league for two years.
Despite that though, Celtic shouldn’t go into the game feeling that they are underdogs. The Hoops should go into the match feeling that they are good enough to get the victory that will see the Bhoys take a commanding lead in the title race.
The fact that there will be 700 Celtic fans at the game could also have an influence on the match. The Celtic fans will be vastly outnumbered by the Rangers support, but the Hoops players will want to win the game for the fans who will be at the game to give them a match
