Open is a great chance for Kirkhill golf pro to pass on tips

Kirkhill golf professional Duncan Williamson is preparing to rub shoulders with the likes of Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler at the Open Championship.

But while the world’s elite battle it out around Royal Troon for the chance to lift the famous Claret Jug, Duncan will be passing on his own wisdom to budding young golfers in the ‘Swing Zone’.

As one of just 30 PGA members picked from around the world to be at golf’s most historic championship, he will use the likes of top tracer technology to pass on tips and advice to amateur golfers inspired by their heroes.

Duncan and his fellow pros will give free 15-minute lessons with the players able to digitally tackle the famous Postage Stamp hole at Troon.

The golfing guru, who will be in Troon from July 14-19, is no stranger to The Open having also taught at the likes of Carnoustie.

And Duncan revealed he might be after a few tips of his own: “There’s always a real buzz about The Open. I’ll try to get into the practice area to watch the players. That’s where you see most of the action.”

Also attending the tournament on the Ayrshire coast will be a contingent of Kirkhill’s junior section, said to be thriving under the guidance of Joe Wiley.

Duncan added: “They are going down on the Thursday so hopefully they get some inspiration.”

If you’re not at The Open, you can still bag a lesson with Duncan. Go to www.kirkhillgolfclub.org.uk/lessons for more information.
