One obvious winner and one clear loser at Barnsley this season – Agreed?

Barnsley have been unable to match the high standards set last season, and subsequently, it is looking increasingly likely that they may drop down to League One. 

Poya Asbaghi’s side have shown glimpses of positivity in more recent weeks, but looking at the season as a whole, it has been a disappointing one.

Should relegation be confirmed in what remains of this season, the Tykes still possess a young and talented squad who could quite easily see success in the lower division.

However, keeping on the theme of assessing this season, here, we take a look at one obvious winner and one clear loser at Barnsley this season…

One winner – Matty Wolfe 

Joining the Barnsley academy aged 10, Matty Wolfe has proceeded to feature fairly regularly for the Tykes during the second half of this season.

Enjoying productive loan spells with Notts County and Esbjerg, Wolfe has gone on to feature 10 times for the Championship club since the turn of the year.

With relegation perhaps limiting the scope when it comes to finding better alternatives, Wolfe is a likely contender to continuing operating regularly within the first-team next season too.

One loser – Cauley Woodrow 

Losing a manager who he fully thrived under, an excellent strike partner in Daryl Dike, and the creativity of Alex Mowatt, things have been tough for Cauley Woodrow.

Unable to show the form displayed last season during the first half of the campaign, Woodrow has spent the entire second half of the term out injured.

Asbaghi has confirmed recently that Woodrow is back in training, however, it is unknown when a return to competitive action will be allowed.
