On Virat Kohli's T20 World Cup Selection, Ex Chief Selector's Bold Message To BCCI

The chatter around Virat Kohli's future in the Indian T20 squad hasn't died down, with rumours suggesting that his place in the team for T20 World Cp 2024 is in jeopardy. A solid performance Indian Premier League (IPL) is reportedly mandatory for Kohli to convince selectors of his position in the T20 World Cup squad. But, former Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) selection committee chief, MSK Prasad, doesn't think Kohli could be left out of the Indian side.

MSK Prasad strongly feels that Kohli remains a crucial player for the Indian team in the T20 World Cup side. He is also confident of seeing the Royal Challengers Bangalore stalwart coming out well in the upcoming IPL campaign.

"Kohli is crucial for India in the T20 World Cup. The selectors can't think that IPL is a place for him to prove his quality. He was never out of the team for his form. He missed India matches because of family reasons. He has been in form for a long time. He will make runs in this IPL as well," Prasad told the official broadcasters of IPL, on Monday.

Prasad also spoke of MS Dhoni's aura in the T20 league, saying the former India captain's commitment to the Chennai Super Kings speaks volumes of his character.

"At 42, Dhoni is still playing for CSK which shows his commitment to the team. Playing for a single franchise for so many years, he has made a huge impact on the team and on fans. He played the entire league with injury to his leg and won the title," he added.

Kohli hasn't played cricket since the Afghanistan series this year. He has joined his Royal Challengers Bangalore teammates in Bengaluru ahead of the start of the new season which will see his franchise take on Chennai Super Kings in the opener on March 22.
