Oli McBurnie opens up on Sheffield United expectations, supporters and his frustrating time

Oli McBurnie says he understands that he may not have lived up to expectations in front of goal following his big-money move from Swansea but he will continue to give his all for the club. His performance yesterday in the 1-0 win over QPR shows how much he puts the team over himself.

He spent most of the day with a sickness bug and was vomiting yet, knowing he was the only senior striker available given Billy Sharp's injury, he still put himself forward to play. He put in a huge shift and was superb in the way he led the line to help Sheffield United back into the play-off picture.

He won nine aerial duels, more than any other player on the pitch, and his link-up with Morgan Gibbs-White was impressive given their lack of match time together as a partnership. The last few months have been frustrating with injuries and illness holding him back but he was delighted to get back out on to the pitch and help his team-mates.

"It's not been ideal for me, between injuries and illnesses it has been frustrating," he told SUTV Live. "It was good to get back out there and help the boys. I'm not at 100% but I gave the boys and the gaffer everything for the win and thankfully we have done that.

"Of course I feel the responsibility but that's what I was brought to the club to do. I wouldn't say it's pressure, just a bit more responsibility that you are willing to take on your shoulders."

He has not found the net in a league game since a 2-1 defeat at home to Leicester in December 2020 and although the wait goes on he admits it's not something that he is losing sleep over too much. The ultimate team player, results are more important to him right now.
