Oleksandr Zinchenko pays emotional tribute to Ukraine after Man City Premier League title win

Oleksandr Zinchenko paid an emotional tribute to Ukraine as he celebrated winning another Premier League title with Manchester City.

The left-back was introduced as a half-time substitute as City completed the most dramatic of comebacks to secure their fourth title in five years. Having fallen 2-0 behind at the Etihad, the Blues scored three late goals in five minutes to secure their crown.

As the City players celebrated with the Premier League trophy at full-time, a tearful Zinchenko was seen draping himself in the flag of his home country. It has been an emotional year for the defender, who has continued to play for the Blues amid Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

With the war still ongoing, Zinchenko took the opportunity to dedicate his latest title triumph to his family and friends back at home. He also paid tribute to City and his teammates for their support during the conflict.

“It’s unforgettable emotions for me, for all the Ukrainians who at the moment are starving, they are surviving in my country because of Russian aggression,” Zinchenko told Sky Sports.

“I’m so proud to be Ukrainian, and I would love to one day bring this title to Ukraine, for all Ukrainian people, because they deserve it.

“It means everything for me. I want to die for all these people, these supporters. What people gave me, what they’ve done for me during this period, the toughest period of my life, I’m so appreciative, and I will never forget this during my life.

“At some points, especially during the beginning, I didn’t think too much about football because it was impossible to live in the same time as what is happening in my country.
