Oleksandr Usyk vs Anthony Joshua 2: Ukrainian accused of 'running' scared from Derek Chisora

Anthony Joshua‘s coach Angel Fernandez has sensationally accused Oleksandr Usyk of running scared from Derek Chisora ahead of their rematch.

Usyk, 35, cruised to a decision win over Chisora, 38, in October 2020, before putting on a masterclass against Joshua, 32, at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last September.

In just 19 fights the Ukrainian has won eight world titles in two weight classes and earned scalps such as Tony Bellew, Mairis Briedis, Murat Gassiev and more recently Britain’s Joshua.

That has led some to suggest that Joshua has an impossible mountain to climb in Saudi Arabia tomorrow night.

However, Fernandez isn’t buying it one bit, as he insisted that he showed some vulnerabilities against Chisora.

Fernandez told iD Boxing: “One thing I kind of have to make a point about is, I think everyone is making of Usyk some form of alien that is unbeatable. At the end of the day, he’s a human being.

“He’s been calling like ‘Anthony I’m coming for you’ and all that stuff and even like Derek that is up there. Why did he run for six rounds against Derek Chisora? Why didn’t he stand and trade in the centre of the ring? So, sometimes I like these kinds of questions and I think we need to question him that as well.

“He’s a real fighter don’t get me wrong, he’s a great, great fighter, great champion but at the end of the day when you’re calling people out and you say like ‘I’m here’ you get into the centre of the ring and you get into the centre of the ring to fight, not to run away and be scared from punches and we’ll find out on Saturday night.”
