"Of course you want to keep" - Pundit reacts as Gerrard lines up key Aston Villa contract talks
Ashley Young’s versatility makes him a valuable player to Aston Villa, according to pundit Carlton Palmer.
The 39-cap international is out of contract at Villa Park in the summer, but Palmer has suggested that the Premier League outfit should prioritise keeping him at the club.
Young rejoined Villa last summer from Inter Milan, after leaving the club ten years earlier to move to Manchester United.
He has not been an ever-present in the starting line-up this season but he has still made 18 top-flight appearances for the Villans.
During the course of the campaign, he has covered both full-back positions, played on either wing, and even moved into central midfield at times.
Villa boss Steven Gerrard is delighted with Young’s contribution, and has labelled him a “manager’s dream”, while also making it clear that he wants the 36-year-old to stay beyond this summer.

Palmer feels Young’s ability to play in multiple positions for Villa is very useful for the side, and he has drawn comparisons between the former Premier League winner and Liverpool’s James Milner.
Speaking to GIVEMESPORT about Young’s future, Palmer said: “Of course you want to keep somebody like Ashley around. He can play numerous positions on the football pitch, and we’ve seen that with Milner. It’s a great asset to have, and they actually become very important players at the football club.”
It appears to make perfect sense.
Having played for some of the biggest clubs in Europe, Young’s experience could be crucial moving forward, and he is a player that the youngsters in the squad can learn plenty from.
