"Oddly" - Respected journalist now drops interesting Pedro Neto injury claim at Wolves

Journalist Tom Collomosse thinks Pedro Neto‘s injury may have actually helped Wolves out.

The 21-year-old picked up a serious knee injury last season that has kept him out until now, and Collomosse believes his lack of action has boosted Wolves’ chances of keeping hold of their star.

Neto was in excellent form for Wolves last season before damaging his knee cap in a 1-0 win against Fulham.

The £31.5m-rated Portuguese winger was directly involved in 11 goals in 31 league appearances and averaged two key passes per game (via WhoScored), showing the kind of attacking threat he brought to Nuno Espirito Santo’s side.

That seemingly did not go under the radar, with 90min reporting that Liverpool, Juventus and Tottenham all ended up making enquiries about the player.

Neto remained at Molineux, though, with his injury obviously complicating things.

Had Neto not have got injured, Collomosse thinks the Portugal international would have attracted more interest going into this summer’s transfer window.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the Daily Mail journalist said: “Oddly, I think his injury might have helped them hang on to him because I think if he had another season this season like last season, it would’ve been hard for them to keep him.

“If he can come back and he’s anything like, yeah, he’s an absolutely brilliant person to introduce because he’s fresh as well.”

As Collomosse has said, if Neto had stayed fit and managed to replicate his form prior to injury this season, the likelihood is teams would have come knocking in the summer. In fact, they still could if he has a strong finish to the campaign.
