O'Rourke, Broadhurst and Desmond progress at Europeans, Fay bows out

Aoife O'Rourke, Amy Broadhurst and Christina Desmond moved into the quarter-finals of the European Championships in Montenegro.

Aoife O'Rourke moved into the medal fight after defeating Greek opponent Vasiliki Stavridou in the middleweight division.

The Roscommon fighter is now just one win away from a medal at the tournament and will go again on Wednesday as she faces a Turkish opponent.

County Louth fighter and reigning world champion, Broadhurst, beat Sema Caliskan of Turkey to join O'Rourke in the last eight of the light welterweight 63kg division.

Desmond made joined her team-mates in the quarter-finals with a convincing victory over Ukraine fighter Maryna Malovana in the 70kg division.

Earlier on Sunday, European Under-22 champion Niamh Fay was beaten in a tough encounter with her Ukrainian opponent.
