O’jez Sports Lounge denies causing obstruction at National Stadium

The O’jez Sports Lounge at the National Stadium, Lagos, has denied obstructing recovery ongoing work at the arena’s mainbowl following a windstorm, which flattened one of the floodlight masts.

When the windstorm in March broke a floodlight mast opposite the tennis courts, Sports Minister, Sunday Dare, instructed that the four masts be taken down, while the area be cordoned off while the work lasted.

But reports by a national daily had suggested that visitors to the O’jez Sports Lounge were hindering work and defying the instruction of the sports ministry.

However, speaking yesterday at the National Stadium, a top management staff of the O’jez Group dismissed the insinuation, saying the sports ministry through the stadium management gave O’j ez Sports Lounge permission to resume their activities after the masts removal.

“We have not defied any instruction or directive,” said Effiong Nyong, O’jez Group’s Director of Media.

“Our area of operation was cordoned off, while the masts were being pulled down. After the two masts facing the entrance of the stadium were removed, the stadium management granted us permission to continue with our operations and so no ministry order was defied.

“Everyone is safe in the environment and we are causing any obstruction to work going on at the Stadium,” he said.
