Nyck de Vries couldn't get out his Williams F1 car after debut at Italian GP

Nyck de Vries made his Formula One debut at the Temple of Speed this weekend, replacing Alex Albon for Williams as the Thai driver was sidelined after having to undergo surgery after being diagnosed with appendicitis.

Grid penalties meant the Dutchman was able to start in the top 10 for the race, sitting eighth on the grid for lights out, giving him a real chance of a point scoring debut.

He certainly delivered, finishing ninth and securing two points in his maiden race, condemning Nicholas Latifi to 21st position in the Drivers’ Championship.

After the race, a range of drivers were congratulating the former Mercedes Formula E man, including Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen, now that’s some serious praise to be getting for a debutant!

Pierre Gasly was also on hand to congratulate the Dutchman in Parc Ferme, with him still stuck in his car at that point.

We have become accustomed to seeing him alongside Toto Wolff at Grands Prix, watching on and taking it all in from some of the best in the business, surely looking to make his move into the sport in the near future.

At 27 years old, he’s not the youngest driver by any stretch, but he still has plenty of time to leave his impression on the sport, with his debut offering showing him take his opportunity with both hands.

When parking up in Parc Ferme, de Vries was sat in his car and struggling to get out, having to jump on the radio for support.

He said: “I’m struggling to even… can, can someone help me or am I alone in Parc Ferme? I can literally not even lift my arms anymore.”

His engineer was quick to support him, saying that he will confirm if someone is there to help him remove himself from his vehicle.
