The Nigerian Volleyball Federation (NVBF) has invited 16 female players to a national training camp, which opened in Kaduna on April 22. It will end on May 1 at the Ahamdu Bello Stadium.

According to NVBF, the camp is expected to prepare players for upcoming Girls’ U-19 World Championship in Croatia, August and the CAVB Girls’ U-19 African Championship.

The body said the team for the international championships would be selected from the crop of players in the camp.

Meanwhile, 40 Nigerian coaches passed their FIVB Level 1 Coaching Course held at the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Package B, Abuja.

Speaking on the new certifications, NVBF President, Musa Nimrod, charged the coaches to make judicious use of the knowledge acquired at the course, saying the current NVBF board believes in capacity building across the country.

He added that before the end of this year, NVBF’s technical adviser would conduct a FIVB Level Two Coaching Course.

Nimrod, who is also the secretary general of Confederation of African Volleyball (CAVB) Zone Three, commended CAVB and FIVB for ensuring the coaching course happened.

“It gives me great joy to see 40 coaches become FIVB Level 1 coaches. Nigeria is a country with over 200 million people, but we do not have FIVB Level Three coaches and instructors. I want to assure you that before the end of 2023, we will have a FIVB Level two Coaching Course to have better chances in Africa.

“I am appealing to all of you to transfer the knowledge acquired here to your various academies and clubs. NVBF will continue to support coaches technically for the promotion of the game across the country.”

45 coaches participated in the FIVB Level
