Nursery kids enjoy tennis sessions at Kirkcudbright Community Tennis Club

Children from Kirkcudbright Primary School Nursery are attending weekly tennis sessions at Kirkcudbright Community Tennis Club.

The children had attended the free Tots’ Tennis sessions during the club’s Fitness Thursday program and enjoyed the sessions so much that head of the nursery, Hazel Hughes, has engaged coach Ryan Galloway to continue the sessions until the summer holidays.

While the children are not quite ready for Wimbledon yet, they are developing tennis related skills, while taking part in a variety of fun activities.

The Fitness Thursday taster sessions also included tennis activities for all generations, with a number of former players rediscovering the fun of tennis while taking part in walking tennis. This group is now planning regular weekly walking tennis sessions.

Social tennis sessions encouraged those who had never played tennis before, or who needed additional support to get started again, to come along and play informal games and enjoy a cup of tea and a chat at the end of play.

The BBC recently filmed the older junior group during their regular Saturday coaching session as part of the programme being made about Kirkcudbright called My Kind of Town being shown later this year.
