Nunez, Raphinha, Sterling: The most expensive signing for each position in 2022/2023
The summer transfer window of 2022 will live long in the memory.
Premier League clubs have invested enormously and their total expenditure so far now rests comfortably over the one billion mark.
And whilst the rest of Europe haven’t dipped into their pockets quite so deeply, we’ve still seen big moves from the usual culprits in Barcelona, Real Madrid, Paris-Saint Germain and Bayern Munich.
So with the memorable window edging closer to its completion, we had the rather different idea of creating a combined XI of the most expensive deals so far for each position.

GK- Gavin Bazunu (€14m) | Man City > Southampton
Banzunu, who has played 10 times for the Republic of Ireland, never got the chance to appear for City’s senior team after joining three years ago from Shamrock Rovers.
But the 20-year-old was awarded Portsmouth’s Players’ Player of the Year award last campaign after an exceptional loan spell in League One.
RB – Neco Williams (€20m) | Liverpool > Nottingham Forest
Another one that couldn’t quite cut it at the top level, Williams still has all the potential required to flourish for Forest in the 2022/2023 season.
Despite being just 21, the promising youngster from Wrexham has been capped 21 times for Wales’ senior team and is viewed as one of the nation’s next stars.

CB – Matthijs de Ligt (€67m) | Juventus > Bayern Munich
