NRL Watch: How England's World Cup hopefuls fared this weekend

It was the NRL’s Magic Round over the weekend, with every game taking place at the Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane. There were a number of Englishmen in action, hoping to impress Shaun Wane as he nears closer to picking his squad for the World Cup.

Here’s a look at how they all got on.

The Burnley born star started at centre in Brisbane Broncos’ 38-0 win over Manly Sea Eagles, putting in an impressive performance. Farnworth assisted one try as well as making a huge 177 metres, the 22-year-old is looking more and more comfortable in the NRL. Ryan Sutton played 40 minutes in Canberra Raiders’ 30-10 win over Cronulla Sharks. Sutton made 96 metres during the game, making 26 tackles as well. Sutton has become a dominant prop in the NRL and with these impressive performances we can expect to see him in an England shirt. He has now played in six games in a row as he continues to impress in the green shirt.

The Canberra Raiders captain played 70 minutes during the win over the Sharks. Whitehead made 33 tackles whilst running in 71 metres, he continues to lead from the front, as his side looks to have turned a corner. Already an experienced international, it's likely that Whitehead will wear the white shirt at the world cup.

A product of Huddersfield Giants’ academy, Dominic Young started and played the full 80 minutes on the wing as the Knights. Young made 156 metres during the game, the most he has made so far in a single game this season. He has had an impressive start to life in the NRL and if this continues, he will give Wane a headache
