NRFF backs Herbert Mensah for President of Rugby Africa

For his vital role in ensuring Nigeria Rugby ban was lifted by the World Rugby body last year, the Nigeria Rugby Football Federation (NRFF), has given the nod to the President of the Ghana Rugby Football Union Herbert Mensah to be elected as the President of the World Rugby’s African Association, when the African body holds it’s Annual Meeting today in Cape Town, South Africa.

Mensah, a current member of the Africa Rugby executive committee, was nominated by Nigeria Rugby to vie for African Rugby presidency to further assist in developing the Sport in the country.

According to NRFF, the African President will be elected for a period of four years commencing immediately after the results are announced by the executive committee today. This will also be the first time in the history of Rugby Africa that elections will be contested, the Nigeria Rugby body also disclosed.

Speaking ahead of the election, NRFF President; Ademola Are, says the Ghana Rugby President, who played a pivotal role in ensuring Nigeria’s ban was lifted by World Rugby last year, deserve to be given the much needed support to develop Rugby in Africa from the grassroots.

“Nobody knows it all, but if you see certain qualities of a man and you sincerely believe that this man can deliver. Then, we do not have any iota of doubt that this man can deliver for Africa, and this is why we nominated Mensah, seconded by Botswana Rugby Union.

“In 2014, Mensah took the helm at the Ghana Rugby Football Union, where he increased awareness around the sport while injecting much enthusiasm for players and officials, as well as encouraging the youth to participate in Rugby through numerous initiatives and activities.
