Now it's really official as tickets for 2023 Formula E race in Cape Town go on sale

If South Africans were still trepidatious about Formula E coming to Cape Town, it couldn't get more real after tickets officially went on sale for the 2023 event.

Expectedly, prices are too expensive to some people's liking, but it will do little to deter fans of open-cockpit racing from seeing these world-class machines in action around the Mother City.

When the series makes its SA debut on the weekend of 25 February 2023, it will be the first time an international single-seater series takes place in Sub-Saharan Africa. The last time was Formula 1 in 1993 at the Kyalami Circuit in Gauteng.

Alberto Longo, Co-founder and Chief Championship Officer of Formula E, said: "We've had a very positive response within our ecosystem of teams, drivers, and sponsors about coming to Cape Town, so we are delighted that the City is joining our Season 9 calendar."

e-Movement (Pty) Ltd, the promotion company behind the race, secured the rights to host it for the next five years.

With ticket sales officially under way, fans can sit in the stands or the Fan Village. Fan Village prices sell for R300 to 350, while those in the stands retail from R995 to R3 450.

The circuit

The Gen3 Formula E cars will race along a 12-turn street circuit that is 2.74km long. According to simulations and projections, the Cape Town track will be one of the fastest on the 2023 calendar and will present drivers with a unique challenge as they navigate through Green Point and around the Waterfront.

The race organisers are excited about Table Mountain and Lion's Head (and Signal Hill) forming the background, while Robben Island is in the foreground.
