Novak Djokovic insists he is not anti-vax but will continue to refuse vaccination even if it means sacrificing future tennis trophies.

The 20-time Grand Slam champion was deported from Australia last month after the government cancelled his visa in a row over his vaccine status.

The same issues could see Djokovic miss Wimbledon and the French Open as he bids to finish as the most successful male tennis player in history.

Djokovic does not want to be associated with the anti-vax moment, saying he supports an individual’s right to choose and would be willing to miss out on future tournaments over his stance on vaccines.

‘Yes, that is the price that I’m willing to pay,’ Djokovic said in his first interview since last month’s drama in Australia.

The Serbian legend added to the BBC: ‘I was never against vaccination, but I’ve always supported the freedom to choose what you put in your body.

‘Because the principles of decision making on my body are more important than any title or anything else. I’m trying to be in tune with my body as much as I possibly can.’
