Nottingham Forest told what it will take to sign ‘number one’ target as ‘talks’ take place

Nottingham Forest will have to smash their club record should they wish to sign ‘number one’ target Morgan Gibbs-White this summer, after ‘talks’ with Wolves last week.

Forest have been linked with a move for Gibbs-White all summer with Steve Cooper eyeing a reunion with a player he worked with at both England youth level and at Swansea City. The midfielder caught the eye in the Championship last season after spending the campaign on loan with Sheffield United.

The 22-year-old scored 10 times and provided eight assists in 34 Championship appearances for the Blades. He also scored and assisted in the play-off semi-finals against Forest.

His performances have caused a number of Premier League teams to show their interest this summer. Forest are said to face competition from the likes of Everton and Crystal Palace, although the Eagles may have now moved on to other targets .

It seems that is not the case with Forest. According to the Telegraph , the club held ‘talks’ with Wolves over a possible transfer last week but were unable to reach an agreement for the player.

It is said that Forest will have to pay a fee of up to £30 million should they wish to sign Gibbs-White this summer, with Wolves saying that the player will start the season with them. That will smash the record fee paid by Forest, who paid out £17.5 million for Union Berlin striker Taiwo Awoniyi.

The report adds that as well as Gibbs-White, Forest are on the lookout for another striker and winger this summer. Former loanee Keinan Davis as well as Burnley’s Maxwel Cornet were named as possible options.
