Nottingham Forest told striker they sold 'will be banging in goals'

Nottingham Forest have been warned that they made a transfer mistake over Tyler Walker despite a limited goals record at Coventry City.

Walker left the Reds in August 2020 in favour of a three-year contract at Forest 's Championship rivals Coventry City. His goals record with the Sky Blues has hardly hit the headlines, however, with just 11 goals in 53 appearances.

He has spent the past 12 months on-loan at Portsmouth in League One, where he scored just once in 15 appearances for the third-tier side as Pompey finished ten points outside the play-offs.

Despite struggling to find the back of the net at a regular frequency, Walker has been tipped to soon find his goalscoring boots by Pompey team-mate Aiden O’Brien.

"Tyler is a terrific player," O'Brien told The News. "I have trained with him for four months, his finishing is top class, he trains really well, he’s a very, very good player and a nice guy. No doubt, mark my words, he will be banging in goals again next season because I believe in him – and he's a great player.

"One season doesn’t define you. You have seen in the past that it takes one season, one season for a breakthrough year, and players are getting their big move to the Premier League. I have no doubt in my mind that Tyler will easily score double figures next season, I have already told him that."

O'Brien added: "Sometimes it doesn’t work. You can try as much as you want, but sometimes it doesn’t work. It happened to me at Sunderland, I tried all sorts, I tried my best, I trained every day as hard as I could, even when I was scoring goals I
