Nottingham Forest’s transfer stance revealed amid big-money offer from Brentford for attacker
Nottingham Forest have rejected Brentford’s latest offer for Brennan Johnson and they have no intention of selling their exciting forward.
The 20-year-old has enjoyed a real breakthrough season for the Reds and he has particularly shone in recent weeks, scoring the winner against Derby County over the weekend and following that up with a goal and an assist in the victory over Barnsley in the week.
However, with Johnson having entered the final 18 months of his deal, there are doubts about his future, with the Bees known to be one of many admirers for the player in the Premier League.
They have gone in with several bids for the attacker, the latest of which was described as ‘significant’ and is in excess of £15m.
But, Telegraph reporter John Percy has revealed that the new bid has been turned down, with key figures at the City Ground set on keeping the youngster for the rest of the season at least.
“Forest have rejected a club record offer from Brentford for Brennan Johnson and are adamant he will not be leaving in this window. Decision is understood to be unanimous from the Forest board, after multiple bids, and they now consider the matter closed.”
The verdict
This is a firm transfer stance that is surely going to be welcomed by all Forest fans because Johnson is key to Steve Cooper’s team.
You have to say it’s the right approach though. Promotion is a real possibility this season and we all know the finances that are involved in going up, so Forest have to take that into consideration when these offers have arrived.
Of course, things can change quickly in football but it appears Johnson will remain at Forest and he has shown recently that he isn’t impacted by this talk.
