Nottingham Forest: Process for ‘big appointment’ now ‘underway’ at City Ground

Nottingham Forest would look to replace Steve Cooper with the ‘biggest name possible’, with the process of finding his successor already ‘tentatively underway’, according to journalist Dean Jones.

Cooper oversaw a bright start to the season at the City Ground but his side have since slumped into the relegation zone with the pressure now mounting on the former Swansea City boss.

Forest sat on four points after their opening three matches of the Premier League season, claiming a victory and a draw from clashes with West Ham and Everton.

It marked an exciting start to life back in the top-flight after Cooper led them to a Championship play-off success last season.

But they have since lost their subsequent four top-flight games, including back-to-back home defeats to newly promoted Fulham and Bournemouth.

Both matches saw Forest throw away leads with Cooper claiming that their problems are currently ‘self-inflicted’.

Jones previously told GiveMeSport that the 42-year-old’s job could be under threat soon after he splashed over £140 million on 22 new signings in the summer.

TalkSPORT pundit Danny Mills has piled on the pressure further, saying the ‘writing is on the wall’ for Cooper.

Jones understands that Nottingham Forest will appoint a big name if they do decide to move on from Cooper.

The journalist adds that plans are already being put in place in the East Midlands if owner Evangelos Marinakis decides to pull the trigger.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “They would look to be ambitious and land the biggest name possible that fits with their vision. That process will already be tentatively underway.”
