Nottingham Forest offered glimmer of hope over future Man United deal

Manchester United could reportedly send James Garner out on loan to a Premier League club next season – offering Nottingham Forest fresh hope of bringing him back to The City Ground in the future.

The 20-year-old spent the second half of 2020/21 at Forest and has been a mainstay in the starting XI since rejoining them on a season-long loan deal in the summer.

Garner has been key in helping the Reds rise from relegation candidates to promotion hopefuls under Steve Cooper but the more impressive his performances have become, the less likely it has looked that they’ll be able to bring him back to the club again in the summer.

However, a report from The Athletic has offered Forest fresh hope by raising the possibility of a Premier League loan move for the midfielder next season.

The report claims that Garner is building his reputation and is expected to be given a chance to stay around the first team squad for next season due to the Red Devils’ struggles in the centre of the park.

However, it is said that he may require a loan to another top flight club first.

That would seem to leave the door open to Forest striking a fresh deal if they can secure promotion this season.

Cooper’s side are currently three points outside the Championship play-off places and 10 back from the automatic spots.

The Verdict

Bringing back Garner next season should be something that Cooper looks to do whichever division Forest are playing in and with that in mind, this is certainly good news.

The report leaves the door open to a potential Premier League loan deal for the 20-year-old and the Reds would surely be an appetising destination as long as they can secure promotion this term.
