Nottingham Forest in 'serious attempt' to sign former Chelsea and Liverpool man

Nottingham Forest reportedly made an attempt to sign former Chelsea, Liverpool and Inter Milan player Victor Moses in March.

The Nigerian international is currently signed to Spartak Moscow in the Russian Premier League. But following Russia's invasion of Ukraine, FIFA adopted temporary rules that would have allowed his transfer to the Reds.

The sporting body gave foreign players and managers the right to "unilaterally suspend their employment contracts" with Russian teams until the end of June this year. Spartak were also removed from the UEFA Europa League, while the national team were barred from the FIFA Men's World Cup.

It has now been revealed that Forest sought to take advantage of the special transfer window by making "a serious attempt" to sign Moses from Spartak, according to The Telegraph. However, talks broke down and the transfer didn't happen.

The same newspaper reported in March that Forest had spoken to the Football League to ask if they could discuss the situation regarding players in Russia with FIFA. It was thought at the time that they were making an appeal on principle, but it now appears that they in fact wanted to sign a particular player.

It is understood Moses was that player and one can see why manager Steve Cooper would be interested in his signature. The 31-year-old would bring a wealth of experience with him having played at the highest levels, but he is also tactically flexible.
