Nottingham Forest hit with another injury concern as Steve Cooper provides update

Nottingham Forest have been left sweating over the fitness of another defender, following their 3-1 thumping of QPR.

The Reds are already without centre-back Steve Cook and left-back Max Lowe for the next six weeks, after the duo suffered ankle and groin problems respectively in Saturday’s rout over Reading. And they now have a concern over Scott McKenna, who was forced off against Rangers.

The Scot was substituted in the 79th minute at the City Ground, having received some treatment on the pitch. Boss Steve Cooper has been left crossing his fingers it is nothing serious, with Liverpool to come in the FA Cup quarter-finals in a few days’ time.

“We’re not sure what he’s done. A bit of fatigue, hopefully. We’ve got our fingers crossed. We’ll have a look at it in the morning,” Cooper said.

“It’s a muscle. It’s not a clear ‘he’s done his hamstring’ sort of thing, but it’s a bit of a pain.

“We’ll see. I don’t want to say too much. When I speak to you on Friday, I’ll probably know more then.”

Forest had fallen behind in the first half to a goal from Andre Gray. But they responded in style, firstly courtesy of a stunning Djed Spence equaliser, and then through goals from Ryan Yates and Brennan Johnson.

The win moved them to within one point of the play-off spots, with this the Reds’ final league game before the international break. They are now unbeaten in nine, in all competitions, ahead of their glamour tie with Jurgen Klopp’s men.
